Associacao Brasiliera de Apoio e de Desenvolvimento
da Árte Capoeira means "Brasilian association for support and
development of the art Capoeira". It was founded 1988 by Mestre Camisa in Rio De Janeiro.
Mestre Camisa created his own philosophy and training
approach, in which he followed and further improved the inovative concepts of
his teacher, Mestre Bimba. His vision for ABADÁ Capoeira was to create an organisation open for new concepts but
not forgetting traditions, upon which it is built. The primary goal of ABADÁ Capoeira is a steady process of
development, innovation and expansion of capoeira, so that it becomes a
worldwide accepted martial part, but won't loose it's original characteristics.
ABADÁ leads to an unification
of the styles of Regional and Angola.
The training orients on the modern principles of Mestre Bimba, at the same
times alligning with the traditional elements of Capoeira Angola. Students of ABADÁ Capoeira are aiming to constantly
improve the technical and physical aspects of this art, as well as to develop
their own abilities into new levels. Along with this they're learning to understand
the rich history of capoeira, spend time learning to play musical instruments
and are actively participating on the world-wide goals of the capoeira society.
Trainings with ABADÁ Capoeira are difficult in the matter of physical toughness as well
as mental discipline. Therefore, instructors of our group are highly skilled in
capoeira practice, aspects of human anatomy and biomechanics, as well as other
martial arts. In combination with the right motivation and joy from learning
the wonderful movements of capoeira, safety on training and a fast learning
process of ABADÁ students is
guaranteed.
ABADÁ Capoeira
is the biggest capoeira association in the world and resides besides Brasil in
many countries of the world, which creates a great base for creating and
developing of intercultural relationships and crossing boundaries. Abadá,
especially its founder, Mestre Camisa, is known for its worldwide social and
environmental activities, spending funds on charity and various programs.
Mestre Camisa
Mestre Camisa was born in north-eastern Brazil. He
first started with capoeira at the age of seven, with his older brother Camisa
Roxa as a teacher. Later on, Camisa joined his brother and became
a student of Mestre Bimba.
At the beginning of the 70s he and his brother joined
a dance group with the name Olodum Maré on their yearlong tour of Brazil. After 3
months in Rio de Janeiro the group went to Europe. Mestre Camisa stayed in Brasil and started
thinking about teaching capoeira for living.
With the beginning of the 80s he started to develop his own
style and methodology based on skills gained from Mestre Bimba. Thanks to his
approach capoeira is now classified as a martial art. All this contributed
to Camisa being considered one of the most influential figures in the history
of capoeira. Not being of robust statue himself, he developed techniques for
controlling the opponent using agility, speed, kicks and takedowns, thus being
able to compete with much bigger and heavier opponents on equal conditions.
